Peter, Bravo for a comprehensive To Do list. May I add a few ideas: 1. ATTITUDINAL CHANGE. ....BRAIN GAIN. The Global North often portrays Africa as a place in need of help. We highlight the crises and overlook the competencies. We hear of the Brain Drain - all the people that leave Africa for more prosperous places. I direct NGOabroad. My colleagues & in Africa are bright and tremendously committed; such people deserve more press and support for they are the change-makers & Brain Gain. 2. CHANGE AT HOME. The focus of change is on or in Africa. More emphasis needs to be placed on changes within us and within our communities: on how world resources are allocated. One 1/8th of the world consumes 7/8ths of the world's resources leaving only 1/8th of the world's resources for 7/8ths the world's people. 3. REVOLUTIONARY The internet is democratizing the world order and empowering the common citizen. Natural disasters will test us: will we work together or spiral into chaos? We have just had a glimpse of the changes yet to come. Ann McLaughlin Director, NGOabroad: International Careers & Volunteering NGOabroad is a unique service that helps you enter or advance in international humanitarian work & provides frugal, customized international volunteer opportunities.

This is quite a timely article. It comes on the heels of the U.N General Assembly meeting in September where the Millennium Development Goals(MDGs) were reviewed and commitments were made to the citizens of African countries. Don't get distracted by the bank bailouts!
